The Iguanas (Back Room)

When: Wed., Jan. 14, 8:30 p.m. 2015

For a quarter-century, The Iguanas have delivered their Big Easy brand of Tex-Mex music, combining groovy R&B, western swing, Latin and roots rock. Their easy-going approach to a broad array of traditional styles recalls the Blasters, with a Gulf of Mexico twist. Rod Hodges (guitar/accordion) and Joe Cabral (banjo/saxophone) provide plenty of dynamism and harmony, while the rhythm section is as nimble as a gymnast. They enjoyed a major-label run to start their career (probably thanks to Los Lobos’ “La Bamba” success), but after experimenting with a trumpet and jazz, they returned to basics for last year’s Juarez. —Chris Parker
