The Heretic

When: Sept. 12-15, Sept. 19-22 and Sept. 26-29 2013

British playwright Richard Bean, whose comedy One Man, Two Guv'nors was a smash on Broadway last year, would like to observe that we've come a long way since that little disagreement the Catholic Church had with Galileo. Except, of course, when scientific outliers find evidence that contradicts our most cherished beliefs.

Dr. Diane Cassell is a global warming skeptic, with reason to be: The evidence she's recently uncovered appears to point away from man-made climate change. This news doesn't thrill her Greenpeace activist daughter, or the head of her department, who has a multimillion-dollar grant application in environmental science on the line and doesn't want this data rocking the boat. Then there are the radicals in the Sacred Earth Militia, who've made death threats after her previous public questions on the issue. Jerome Davis directs this U.S. premiere; the sterling cast includes PlayMakers mainstay Julie Oliver as well as Emilie Stark-Menneg and Holden Hansen. —Byron Woods
