THE GLASS MENAGERIE

Regional directors have already done much with the oft-produced memory play by Tennessee Williams. His narrator, Tom Wingfield, has been depicted as everything from a reticent filmmaker to a longshoreman navigating a treacherous field of ice. One striking version had Tom's fragile sister, Laura, who curates the title collection of small glass animals, backhand him during his final apology. But what does Patrick Torres, Raleigh Little Theatre's artistic director, see in this American classic? We'll find out when he directs distinguished but seldom seen actor Mary Rowland, stage stalwart Jesse Gephart, and up-and-comer Kelly McConkey. —Byron Woods
