The Expendables series finds over-the-hill mercenaries proving they still have what it takes. The third installment feels as long in the tooth as its geriatric cast. Sylvester Stallone's character leads a band of younger Expendables to apprehend Mel Gibson's brutal international arms dealer. When the youths are captured, Stallone and his old crew must save the day. There's little to separate the actors from their token roles and inside jokes about the cast's personal travails sustain the film. The younger actors are charmless, witless bores. Action sequences are collages of cannon fodder and bad CGI. It would have been wise to fully embrace satire, but this feels much like its title suggests: expendable.
