The Emperor's New Groove

When: Fri., Jan. 11, 11:59 p.m. 2013

For nearly two decades now, Disney has been known primarily for distributing computer-animated gems from Pixar, so it's easy to forget that the Mouse Factory also has churned out some hand-drawn animated flicks during that time that were pretty good in their own right. This underrated delight from 2000 falls in that category, which is surprising given the notoriously troubled production it had. What was originally supposed to be a Prince and the Pauper-style musical was overhauled into a frenetically funny buddy comedy, with David Spade as the voice of a selfish, smart-ass emperor who consumes a potion that turns him into a llama and John Goodman as the peasant who reluctantly helps him get him back to his palace so he can return to being human. The movie plays for free at 11:59 p.m. —Craig D. Lindsey
