The Diary Play: Four Teens Tell Their Story

When: May 22-24, 7:30 p.m. and Sun., May 25, 2 p.m. 2014

Did you keep a diary as a teenager? Do you still have it? Now, would you ever give it to a theater company to put on stage? Four women from their mid-20s to 50s said yes when director and adaptor Trey Morehouse asked last year, and the intriguing result chronicles—at times with disturbing immediacy—the highs and lows of a 16-year-old struggling to reconcile her theatrical talent with her family's conservative Christianity, a 14-year-old in the throes of first love, another girl's struggles with an alcoholic father in a hardscrabble rural community and a Turkmenistan teenager whose village turns on her. The cast includes Elise Kimple, Gretchen Struckmeyer, Lydia Trogdon and Emily Rose White. Burning Coal Theatre provides the venue for the show through May 25. —Byron Woods
