The Civil War in Fiction & Film

When: Sun., Oct. 7, 2 p.m. 2012

The museum's Civil War Sesquicentennial Lecture Series doesn't officially begin until November, so consider this talk a warm-up event—one that also coincides with the current Real to Reel: The Making of Gone with the Wind exhibit, on display through January. David Sachsman, professor of communications at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and author of Mystery and Myth: The Civil War in Fiction and Film, will discuss how books and movies have handled the Civil War. Considering that 2012 gave audiences not one but two films about Abraham Lincoln (an upcoming biopic from Steven Spielberg and a 3D summer flick in which Lincoln was a vampire slayer), we're sure he'll have plenty to say about the subject. The 2 p.m. talk is free. —Craig D. Lindsey
