THE CHORUS PROJECT

CAT'S CRADLE (BACK ROOM), CARRBORO

SATURDAY, AUG. 1

This summer showcase focuses on a different kind of art and craft: For the past five years, The Chorus Project's Summer Recording and Vocal Workshop has provided a rigorous chance for high school students to hone their singing skills. They learn arrangements of several tunes—generally, pop songs—over a week, record two in a professional studio and make a music video. The program started on Monday, and on Saturday, the Cradle's Back Room gives a glimpse at what the 40-member crew has done. This year's arrangements include fun.'s "Carry On," Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car" and Ben Folds Five's "Kate," among others. Singers will present their favorite smaller-ensemble arrangements from the program's open-mic component. The Chorus Project has caused a stir in the past with its arrangements of R.E.M.'s "Everybody Hurts" and the St. Vincent-and-David Byrne number "Who," so expect to be dazzled again. 7:30 p.m., $5$8, 300 E. Main St., Carrboro, 919-967-9053, www.catscradle.com —Allison Hussey
