The Blind Shake, Ricky Bacchus, Dim Delights

When: Sat., Nov. 29, 9:30 p.m. 2014

Last week, the feisty and fuzz-loving Minneapolis rock trio The Blind Shake announced that they’d recorded a tribute album to surf instrumentals with Swami John Reis, of both Hot Snakes and Drive Like Jehu. The first tease of the material is excellent—precise without being polished, exacting without being overworked. If you peer just beneath the hood of The Blind Shake’s best material without Reis, you can find that surf-centric verve, just wrapped up in the screaming amps of garage-rock and the searing attitude of punk. Listen for it in their hollered hooks and sharp riffs, especially on their excellent 2013 celebration of excess, Key to a False Door. —Grayson Haver Currin
