After a recent batch of raunchy matrimonial tales aimed at 20-somethings, writer-director Justin Zackham (The Bucket List) attempts to make the naughty nuptials narrative digestible for the boomer set with a ensemble of sexagenarians and a healthy dose of the hyper-sunny ambience found on a Nancy Meyers set. Based on the 2006 Swiss-French film Mon Frere Se Marie, the plot roots itself in complications surrounding a pre-marriage meet and greet between the groom's rigidly Catholic birth mother and his now-divorced adoptive parents (Diane Keaton and Robert De Niro). In an effort to avoid divulging the truth, future groom Alejandro (Ben Barnes) and bride Missy (Amanda Seyfried) beg their families to take up a set of lies to maintain a farcical charade of propriety. The denouement ultimately creates a mismatch of bawdiness and boring romance.
