TV news reporter April O'Neil (Megan Fox) discovers that her childhood pet turtles have mutated into a quartet of sewer-dwelling ninja trained by her similarly evolved pet rat Splinter. They face the evil Foot Clan, led by hilariously over-armored martial artist Shredder, who must have escaped from producer Michael Bay's Transformers. The turtles are also teens, meaning they love pizza and speak slang (more like rappers than surfers now—don't worry, we get a climactic "Cowabunga!"). To its credit, the film treats this ludicrous premise with affectionate mockery. The CGI turtles are weighty, dynamic and expressive, which makes the action fun. Sure, the plotting is schematic and hole-ridden, the stakes low and the one-liners sophomoric. But this is an enjoyable enough diversion for anyone with low expectations and fond memories of TMNT's cartoon and movie heyday circa 1990.
