Tea with Edie & Fitz

When: June 1-18 2017

Historical fact: on a summer's day in 1925, Edith Wharton invited F. Scott Fitzgerald to her estate for tea. Another historical fact: according to eyewitnesses, the meeting was an absolute disaster, and the two never spoke or met again. At best, they would have made an improbable pair; at sixty-three, Wharton was the severe, meticulous, old-money moralist of The Age of Innocence, while Fitzgerald was a brash, undisciplined twenty-nine-year-old wunderkind intent on documenting the decadence of the Jazz Age. But Chicago playwright Adam Pasen finds the deeper similarities in the lives and loves of two literary lions in this biographical play, which opens N.C. State's TheatreFest 2017. Mia Self directs. —Byron Woods
