Tallis Scholars

When: Sun., April 1, 5 p.m. 2012

The resonant architecture of Duke Chapel can make a coughing fit sound good. Just imagine what the 10 glorious voices of the Tallis Scholars will sound like in that acoustic paradise. Peter Phillips conducts the preeminent performers of Renaissance choral music in a program featuring the sacred music of William Cornysh and Jean Mouton. The program, titled "Field of the Cloth of Gold," celebrates the friendly 16th-century clash between King Henry VIII of England and King Francis I of France, whose choirs pitted the music of Cornysh (England) and Mouton (France) against each other in what could be considered a really early precursor of American Idol. Tickets to the 5 p.m. show are $26, or $5 for Duke students. —Chris Vitiello

Price: $26, $5 all students
