Talking Music

When: Nov. 15-17, 7:30 p.m. 2010

UNC's Department of Music hosts this final night of a three-part series of concerts and lectures, rife with classical work and electronic fireworks. The series started Monday with Stockhausen's Gesang der Jünglinge, the first masterpiece of electronic composition, then Stefan Litwin cast some fresh light on the canon and on left-of-center Italian avant-garde composer Luigi Nono. Tonight features piano duo Andreas Grau and Götz Schumacher performing Bach, Bernd Alois Zimmermann and, notably, a piece from Visions de l'Amen, by Olivier Messiaen. Look for more explorations of Ravel and Debussy, dovetailing with Litwin's performances of those two. It starts at 7 p.m. with a talk. The music begins at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free. —Chris Toenes
