Tarbox Ramblers
  • Tarbox Ramblers

HIDEAWAY BBQ—There've been more than a couple bands with Ramblers in their name; thanks to Charlie Poole and two Red Clay-related outfits (original and not as original), North Carolina can claim three. It works up north, too, as the handle fits Cambridge, Mass.-based quartet the Tarbox Ramblers and their sound, which roams from folk to blues to gospel, all of it raw-boned and rowdy. As for the Tarbox part, it might sound like the roughest joint in town, but it's actually the last name of band leader Michael, he of the voice built for drama and slide guitar poised for action. Tickets are $8-$10 for the 8:30 p.m. show. —Rick Cornell
