Structure: Phil Freelon Photographs

When: Sat., April 13, 5-7 p.m. and April 13-June 29 2013

Not many artists can say they've left an enduring mark on a landscape, but Phil Freelon can. His architectural work includes the Durham Bulls Athletic Park as well as the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture currently being added to the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Now his photographic work gets its first devoted showing at Craven Allen in Structure: Phil Freelon Photographs, which opens Saturday and runs through June 15. His subjects range from landscape to still life, from far-flung corners of the world to the buildings of the ever-changing Bull City. The show offers an intriguing opportunity to see how the eyes of a builder apprehend the world. Award-winning jazz singer Nnenna Freelon give a brief performance at the opening reception. —Chris Vitiello
