Still Flyin', Dead Fame, D&D Sluggers, Marshall Railroad

When: Sun., June 24, 8 p.m. 2012

Still Flyin' is a strange San Francisco collective whose official lineup includes plenty of drums, auxiliary percussion, a member credited with "dance moves" and, yes, a guru. But discard the Haight-Ashbury, acid-jam notions that surely just popped into your head: On a Bedroom Wall, the latest from the big Bay Area band, adds the cheer of Madness to the chemistry of New Order, the oomph of similar indie outfits such as Architecture in Helsinki to the affability of your modern radio dial. The album's appropriately apostrophe-dependent lead single, "Travelin' Man," pushes the pulse just hard enough to avoid the pitfalls of its cloying harmonies and unabashed nostalgia, its beat beating back maudlin worries with perfect bursts of verses. Dead Fame, D&D Sluggers and Marshall Railroad open the $7 show at 8 p.m. —Grayson Currin
