Simone Dinnerstein, piano

When: Fri., Jan. 20, 8 p.m. 2012

In 2007, Simone Dinnerstein appeared on the scene—actually, she kind of was the scene—with a self-financed recording of the Goldberg Variations that wowed listeners with an expressiveness not usually associated with Bach. Local listeners got a taste of her versatility in a varied program last year at Duke with singer-songwriter Tift Merritt. Now Dinnerstein mixes it up again, with a classical program interrupted by Daniel Felsenfeld's Leonard-inspired Cohen Variations. Dinnerstein has a restless musical mind, bringing out the jazz in Brahms, the romantic in Chopin and somehow non-narrative storylines in Bach's Partitas. —Chris Vitiello
