Signal Fest with Pac Div, Kooley High, Actual Proof, King Mez, Dow Jones

When: Wed., Sept. 22, 9:30 p.m. 2010

So, here's the truth: Your girlfriend probably has a crush on all of the guys (BeYoung, Like, Mibbs) in this Southern California trio and gives their two mixtapes—Church League Champions and Don't Mention It—constant rotation at full blast. She well knows that even though you might roll your eyes and get a bit jealous, neither of you can get enough of Pac Div's recreational emceeing, aglow with bad-boy poise and professorial charm. Along with some other fairly new acts from Cali (Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar and Fashawn, for instance), Pac Div belongs to a post-Dre/ Snoop/ Ice Cube lineup of hip-hop artists known as the "New West movement." Here's hoping that this movement can eternally eclipse that bubble-gummy, Cali-bred craze known as "Jerk Movement." Show Pac Div that you wouldn't mind if they spearheaded the effort. Do it for hip-hop and, if you must, do it for your girlfriend. Kooley High, Actual Proof, King Mez and Dow Jones open at 9:30 p.m. The show is part of Signal 2010.—Eric Tullis

Price: $12-14
