Sebadoh, Richard Buckner

When: Sun., March 27, 9 p.m. 2011

This odd but intriguing bill pairs Lou Barlow, the frontman and founder of Sebadoh, with singer-songwriter Richard Buckner. With Sebadoh, Sentridoh, Dinosaur Jr. or recording solo under his own name, Barlow's favored not only the lo-fi crunch of atavistic indie rock but also, lyrically, its embrace of the inane and mundane. Barlow sings about cats and sadness, love and loserness, with the flippant wit of a young punk who has grown up. Buckner, however, has been making some of the most pristine and nuanced records—lyrically and musically—on the indie rock side of alt-country for more than a decade. His elliptical memoirs of a perseverant heart are beautifully resilient, his husky voice rising above every tide. —Grayson Currin
