"So how did all of this happen to an outcast from North Carolina?" writes Sean, or Shauna, Yseult in I'm in the Band: Backstage Notes From the Chick in White Zombie, concluding a rich passage that details many of her adventures and accomplishments in the crusty horror-show metal band. The daughter of two English professors, Yseult grew up in Raleigh, whereupon she took ballet lessons and toured with the city's youth orchestra. Her first book presents a trove of candid photos, revelatory anecdotes and touring trinkets, all molded by her insight into crashing the boys' club. "Throughout years of touring with the heaviest, testosterone-craze bands like Pantera, Anthrax, Testament, Megadeth and Danzig, I was always treated with respect, as an equal and as one of the guys." Yseult reads from I'm in the Band at 7 p.m. —Grayson Currin
