Saturdays in Saxapahaw: Loamlands

When: Sat., May 24, 6 p.m. 2014

During the song "Keep on Walking," Kym Register, the leader of the steely and affable Loamlands, sings that you've got to keep moving, even when the road seems paved with obstacles. That sentiment certainly fit the start of Loamlands, which Register and sideman Will Hackney formed from the wreckage of their band Midtown Dickens. But in the past year or so, the path has gotten smoother for Loamlands, as they've found a home of their own within easygoing Southern rock-influenced tunes. They've just finished an 11-track LP with Durham-based producer Scott Solter, too. Loamlands' songs are mellow without sounding lethargic, big and ambitious without seeming grandiose. They'll be the perfect accompaniment for the ever-pleasant Saturdays in Saxapahaw series. —Allison Hussey
