Phi Alpha Xi Plant Sale

J.C. Raulston Arboretum--Spring sprang March 21, and there are few better realizations of the season here than the annual Phi Alpha Xi plant sale at N.C. State's arboretum. Proceeds from the sale--today from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.--benefit horticultural charities and organizations.

The Wise Cracks

Bickett Gallery--I'd say that, if we're lucky, this is what the future's going to look like--except it already does. After a smash debut last fall, this irreverent performance collective for women past middle age, an octet already well known in regional literature, theater and dance, returns this weekend with more moves, stories, jokes, performance poetry, bawdy songs and hard-won wisdom. Showtime's 7:30, tickets are $10-$5, and proceeds go to Doctors Without Borders. For more info, call 732-1640. --Byron Woods

Hank Williams III

Lincoln Theatre--The third Williams boy was a day out of the womb when people the world over expected him to write a knockout tear jerker. Hank just wanted to smoke weed. Of course, he didn't buckle under the pressure one bit, and eventually responsibilities (a kid) ushered him into the music industry. At 34, Williams has done country hearts proud, stood on stage at the Warped Tour with his punk band Assjack, played bass in a Pantera side project, and done it all with style and anti-grace just like his pappy and grand pappy. III's new double album is out now. The 9 p.m. show runs $12-15. --Robbie Mackey
