QUAIL RIDGE BOOKS & MUSIC—Wales resident Jasper Fforde brings back literary detective Thursday Next to save literature in his newest book Thursday Next: First Among Sequels. The fifth installment in the series challenges the popular, no-nonsense protagonist to travel through the literary world amid death threats and restrictive corporate power. Anticipating a large turn-out, Quail Ridge will begin distributing signing line tickets before the reading at 7 p.m. Visit —Sarah Lupton

EXPLORIS—Bring the whole family and get down Persian style. The Iranian Cultural Society of North Carolina will perform Persian folk dance and even teach a few of their moves to the audience. It begins today at 2 p.m. and is free with admission to the museum. Visit for more info. —Karlie Justus

N.C. MUSEUM OF ART—Looking at the connections between Tres Chicas and Dixie Chicks—the artists for the museum's latest cinema/song mash-up—there's more than meets the eye. Sure, there are three women in each band, singing what's generally country music. More importantly, there's a desire to break continuing Nashville conventions of sound and spirit. Tres Chicas do country serenade with heavy jazz and soul elements, while the Dixie Chicks offer a documentary account of the drama surrounding their 2004 antiwar statements. Show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults, $6 for kids 7-12. Visit for more info. To hear a track from Tres Chicas, see this week's Get Out.—Kathy Justice
