Rude Mechanicals | Duke Campus: Sheafer Lab Theater | Stage | Indy Week

Rude Mechanicals

When: Sept. 24-27, 7 & 9 p.m. 2014

LARP, or live action role-playing, is an offshoot of Dungeons & Dragons-style tabletop games where players put down the dice and spreadsheets to act out their fantasies in real-world settings, often in costumes and armed with foam weapons. It's essentially a form of improvised theater, so it's no stretch for the inventive Austin, Texas theater collective Rude Mechs to integrate the concept into Now Now Oh Now, their Durham debut after 17 years of existence. Courtesy of Duke Performances, Rude Mechs bring the show to the intimate Sheafer Lab Theater for an interactive experience that keys in on inherent LARP tensions between free will and chance. The run is sold out, but if you're a fan of role-playing games or completely unique theatrical experiences, it's worth scouring the aftermarket for tickets.—Brian Howe

Price: $10-$24
