Rowdy Square Dance

When: Sat., June 9, 8 p.m. 2012

Gather up your partner, don your best plaid shirt and boots and square up for an evening with the Five Points Rounders. This crack crew of local old-time musicians features David Bass on fiddle, Colin Booy on banjo, Steve Kruger on guitar and Rob VanVeld on his signature gutbucket bass. (VanVeld is the Independent Weekly's longtime circulation manager.) For this dance, they'll have Cane Creek clogger Aaron Ratcliffe calling the moves. The Rounders bear down on tunes with wild energy, driving the action until the caller hollers "stop." It may be an old-fashioned sort of party, but that doesn't mean it's not loud and riotous. The $7 admission benefits the Eno River Association's conservation mission. —Ashley Melzer
