Rock 'n' Roll High School

When: Wed., Sept. 8, 8 p.m. 2010

They just don't make teen movies like this any more. Far from being a typical Roger Corman exploitation film, this funhouse-mirror salute to anarchy takes place in an alternate universe where the Ramones are (rightly) the biggest band in the world and Clint Howard can be the coolest kid in school (well, behind P.J. Soles' Riff Randall, a self-proclaimed "teenage lobotomy"). The Ramones' entrance midway into the film, while performing "I Just Wanna Have Something to Do," is a keeper. It should be in the Smithsonian. Defying the authority of Principal Togar (Mary Woronov), the new totalitarian in charge at Vince Lombardi High School, Riff leads an explosive rebellion that you could not get away with in cinema today. To think this film was almost called Disco High! To think that the object of Riff's affections was almost Todd Rundgren! Enjoy the small miracle that is Rock 'n' Roll High School for just $5 at 8 p.m. and get a ton of great old trailers before and after the film. Visit www.cinemaoverdrive.net. —Zack Smith
