The title stands for Rest in Peace Department, a purgatorial police force of sorts, responsible for catching Dead-O's ("bad" people who have inexplicably escaped final judgment). The film seems to be yet another made with 3-D projection in mind, featuring ample effects and a zombie-esque. Jeff Bridges and Mary-Louise Parker carry the film with their timing, but many comedic attempts land with a tired plunk. The most sustained joke follows the premise that all undead officers are given new identities with which to return to the living world to avoid recognition. As such, Parker's character becomes a very large black man, Bridges' becomes a classically "hot" blonde woman, and Ryan Reynolds' protagonist becomes an aging Chinese man. Funny, no? Eh, not really.
