A double dose of oddball Oscar follow-ups highlights this round of Retrofantasma. First at 7 p.m., there's Faye Dunaway in The Eyes of Laura Mars, an adaptation of a John Carpenter screenplay directed by Irvin Kershner (who later helmed The Empire Strikes Back). Dunaway followed up Network with this tale of a photographer able to see through the eyes of a serial killer; this might be perhaps the moment where she began the spiral that would lead to Mommie Dearest and decades of campy performances.
It's followed by 1982's Visiting Hours, a rare lead role for 1975 best supporting actress winner Lee Grant that wound up alongside the likes of I Spit on Your Grave and Cannibal Holocaust on the UK "Video Nasty" list. Grant plays a feminist who finds herself being stalked by Michael Ironside along with Linda Purl. And hey, William Shatner's in it, which makes everything better! Double your Oscar winner-in-horror action for a mere $8. —Zack Smith
