Retrofantasma George Romero Double Feature

When: Thu., April 2, 7 p.m. 2010

Zombies: Who doesn't love 'em? All it took for them to capture the hearts (and other internal organs) of a nation was a little black-and-white low-budget film made with donations from an actor who owned a chain of butcher shops. Yes, in the tumultuous year of 1968, our nation was blessed with the arrival of George Romero's Night of the Living Dead, and while the zombies might have been called "ghouls," their flesh-eating convergence against hapless victims ignited a revolution of horror that continues to this day. Romero continues his proud tradition with Survival of the Dead, and lucky moviegoers can catch the latter with a special screening of the original at the Carolina Theatre. The double feature, which serves as a fundraiser for the Retrofantasma series, starts with Survival at 7 p.m., with Night at 9:30. —Zack Smith
