BURNS AUDITORIUM AT NCSU—I had an architecture professor once who compared Richard Meier's buildings to a stack of washing machines. I guess the quotidian charm of the classic American laundromat was lost on him. Perhaps best known in the South as the firm behind Atlanta's High Museum of Art, Richard Meier & Partners epitomizes the cool, lustrous, high-modernist philosophy in buildings that are technically marvelous and aesthetically unmatched. Characterized by glossy snow-white exteriors and purified interiors, the firm's projects are known for their essential clarity. Renny Logan, an Associate Partner at Richard Meier since 1996, speaks in Raleigh as part of AIA Triangle and the NC State School of Architecture's joint lecture series. His leadership has led to notable projects around the world, including the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art, Rothschild Tower Tel Aviv and the Swissair North American headquarters in Melville, New York. The enormous global success of his firm is attributable to its continued refining of a signature approach, the qualities of which are as self-evident as the need for sunlight, or a good washing machine. 6 p.m., free, 2221 Katharine Stinson Dr., Raleigh, Leon
