Reggie Fest: Halloween Beer Bar and Magic

When: Fri., Oct. 31, 6-9 p.m. 2014

NORTH CAROLINA MUSEUM OF ART—History lauds Houdini for unmasking spiritualists as frauds. Reginald Scott was his antecedent by centuries, penning The Discoverie of Witchcraft, which denied the existence of witches or any other physical manifestations of Satan's power, in 1584. The only thing Scott liked more than witch-debunking was beer—he also contributed a crucial early text about cultivating hops in England. The North Carolina Museum of Art toasts its portrait of Scott on Halloween night with a beer party, magic show and conservator's talk. Fortnight Brewing Company brings the suds, DJ Forge brings the beats and performers from the Raleigh Magic Club bring the tricks. 6 p.m., free, 2110 Blue Ridge Rd., 919-839-6262, —Chris Vitiello

Price: Free (beer and wine available for purchase)
