Redghost | Common Ground Theatre | Stage | Indy Week

When: Wednesdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m. and Sundays, 2 p.m. Continues through Sept. 18 2010

Little Green Pig's adaptation of the classic Japanese play Yotsuya Kaidan promises "Revenge, lust, obsession and the fast track to hell." Indeed, the preview on Vimeo ( promises as much shirtless grappling and violence as A Streetcar Named Desire. The original tale, first staged in 1825, has been adapted and elaborated upon more than 30 times since its premiere. It involves samurai, prostitutes and an awful lot of murder and haunting. We don't know what will be in this original English-language update by Ganesha, but it's going to be bloody. Rachel Klem directs the production, which runs through Sept. 18. This show kicks off the Japanese season at Little Green Pig, and it promises to be a fascinating and eclectic lot. Tickets are $12 on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, $15 on Friday and Saturday, with a student rush price of $8 one hour before every show. —Zack Smith
