Raekwon | Clubs & Concerts | Indy Week

Clubs & Concerts

When: Mon., June 6, 7 p.m. 2011

The last time Raekwon performed in Raleigh, he noticed there were quite a few attractive white women in the Lincoln Theatre crowd. Something (presumably his bottle of Hennessy) drove him to blurt "I fucks the whiteys." It was a rather strange and crass thing to say, but we forgive him because (and I'm liable to lose a lot of my Wu-Tang Clan-enthusiast friends with this assertion) these days Raekwon is, by far, spitting the sharpest darts of any of his Wu-Tang brothers. Yes, even Ghostface. Raekwon's latest LP, Shaolin Vs. Wu-Tang, finds our favorite rap chef sharpening the lexicon of his trademarked hip-hop noir for "Butter Knives," "Snake Pond" and "Ferry Boat Killers." Raekwon looks like he might be a little too chunky to make it through an hour-plus performance of these and other Wu-Tang classics, but he pulls it off, even if he gets a little distracted by gorgeous "whiteys." —Eric Tullis
