Racing the Cure Benefit for Oliver Gant with Tift Merritt, Bombadil, Holy Ghost Tent Revival, Small Ponds, Brice Randall Bickford

When: Fri., March 23, 7:30 p.m. 2012

The buzz for this four-venue benefit for Oliver Gant, a local 2-year-old recovering from cancer treatments, stems from The Avett Brothers, who play the 250-capacity Kings. Seeing the emotive, energetic folkies return to a rock club would be sweet, but that particular show, like the others, has been sold out for weeks. Happily, there are other pleasures here. Smooth-piped country songstress Tift Merritt and whimsical pop outfit Bombadil play the Lincoln Theatre, while local rock mainstays such as The Love Language and Whatever Brains fill out the remainder of the bills at The Pour House and Tir na nOg. —Jordan Lawrence
