Punks vs Greasers: Hearts & Daggers, Destroyed Tradition, The Tremors, Shoot First, Whiskey Trail Outlaws, Dirty South Revolutionaries

When: Sat., April 24, 6:30 p.m. 2010

The punkers will have their hands full with the fine lineup of rockabilly acts for this second annual throwdown. Greensboro's The Tremors have a Stray Cats swagger, and Jimmy Tremor's wailing Elvis-ish vocals possess a bit of Lux Interior's spooky charm. Raleigh's Hearts & Daggers are one of the area's finest cowpunk acts, with strong hooks and a crisp blend of rock, country and trad elements reminiscent of Drag the River. With their honky-tonk air, even Holly Springs' Whiskey Trail Outlaws are solid, though the rockabilly connection's tenuous. While Destroyed by Tradition's raging hard-core tempos and slashing guitars bum-rush the show, they've got less backup in the thrash-minded Dirty South Revolutionaries and Durham's Shoot First. —Chris Parker
