Piedmont Performance Factory Open House

When: Sun., May 18, 4 p.m. 2014

For more than a decade, Joseph Megel has helmed some of the area's most intrepid theatrical projects. His productions of Shakespeare's R&J, Mother Courage, Nixon's Nixon, The Goat, or Who is Sylvia? and The Best of Enemies have challenged regional artistic standards. UNC's Process Series, which he created in 2008, has aided local and national artists in developing promising works in progress. We get a first look at Megel's next endeavor in this afternoon of food, wine and performance that also serves as a silent auction fundraiser for Piedmont Performance Factory, a proposed new theater space at Chatham Mills. Patrons will nosh on goodies from local restaurants and bid on goods and services from regional businesses, artists and salons. Puppet-master Torry Bend, Sacrificial Poet Kane Smego and New York-bound actor and percussionist Alphonse Nicholson present recent works. Architect Erin Sterling shows us what the new place looks like, and WUNC's Frank Stasio hosts. —Byron Woods
