When: Mon., Sept. 20, 7 p.m. 2010

A History of Affirmative Action author and N.C. A&T State University Professor Philip Rubio chronicles the untold history of African-American postal workers and their role in social change in his new UNC Press title, There's Always Work at the Post Office: African American Postal Workers and the Fight for Jobs, Justice, and Equality. Rubio's book focuses on New York City and Washington, D.C., as it looks at how black postal workers helped create civil rights unionism at the post office and in turn helped create bargaining rights for the newly formed U.S. Postal Service. Rubio will read from and sign copies of his book starting at 7 p.m.—Zack Smith
