Paula Deen

When: Fri., Oct. 14, 6-8 p.m. 2011

Food Network star and maven of down-home Southern cooking Paula Deen will sign copies of her new cookbook, Paula Deen's Southern Cooking Bible (Simon & Schuster, $29.99), which collects 325 classic recipes of sumptuous Dixie fare. But if you're hoping for a dose of Deen's trademark Southern hospitality, you might have to be satisfied with an overheard "Hey y'all!" and a glimpse of her silver coiffure. Quail Ridge is hoping the deep-fat fryer diva can process some 600 signatures in her two-hour appearance. In fact, you could whip up a batch of Deen's Real Deal Gumbo in the time it takes to learn all the restrictions on this event. Eschewing a reading or cooking presentation as if it were New England Clam Chowder, Deen will only be signing her new book; if you bring earlier books, or oven mitts, you'll be turned away. And you have to buy the book from Quail Ridge to get a signing ticket. Also, signatures won't be personalized, and Deen won't pose for photos, though you're allowed to snap a quick shot while she scrawls the nine letters of her name on your book. Y'all come back now! The event runs 6–8 p.m. —Chris Vitiello
