Passion Pit, Cults

When: Tue., June 11, 7:30 p.m. 2013

Here is a gathering of indie's catchiest and most fist-pumping acts: Manhattan's Cults, still riding high on their 2011 self-titled debut and its breakthrough single "Go Outside," join Cambridge's Passion Pit. The latter continues a victory lap for last summer's Gossamer, a strangely moving dance-ready record about lead singer Michael Angelakos' bipolar disorder. Tellingly, both groups have found their music incorporated into video game soundtracks (MLB '11: The Show and FIFA 13, respectively) and, even more bizarrely, remixed by rappers. D.C. oddball Tabi Bonney freestyled over "Go Outside," while drug-rap hitmaker Juicy J added some verses to Passion Pit's "Constant Conversations." Those reworkings suggest a flexible, bigger-than-the-blogs appeal to this hook-packed, stadium-prepped indie pop. —Brandon Soderberg
