Parallels, Omar Bajwa

When: Wed., May 9, 8 p.m. 2012

Electronica textures bleed more and more into what's best codified as indie music: Consider Bear in Heaven's eccentric shoegaze for dancing shoes, Toro y Moi's deconstructed disco, or G-Side's blue-collar Moog-hop. Most bands borrowing from electronica, like those examples, are into it for interesting recombinations. Toronto's Parallels, however, are traditionalists, at least as much as one can be a traditionalist in the land of keyboard swells and four-on-the-floor bass thumps. Raise New Order's synth-worship to populist dance-floor-friendly levels and inject vocals that slide casually from '80s mall-pop to solo Stevie Nicks, and you're in the right ballpark. Of note, drummer Cameron Findlay previously played in unhinged stylistic cousins Crystal Castles. Omar Bajwa opens. Pay $7 at 8 p.m. —Corbie Hill
