Paderewski Festival

When: Thu., Nov. 13 2014

Ignacy Jan Paderewski was the Lang Lang of his day: a virtuoso pianist and a celebrity ambassador for his home country. Oddly enough, the Polish musician also had local connections. He gave four concerts in Raleigh in the early 20th century, which will be celebrated by this inaugural event. The Paderewski Festival will honor the pianist’s legacy with lectures and piano recitals in multiple Raleigh venues while aiming to highlight Polish and Eastern European repertoire and history. Expect to hear impeccable performances of Chopin and Liszt by prize-winning pianists, as well as discussions of Padereweski’s national heritage. It begins with a free 7 p.m. lecture before heading to Meredith College, St. Mary’s School and the North Carolina Museum of Art during the rest of the week. See paderewski-festival.org for the schedule. —Will Robin
