Orson Scott Card

When: Wed., Dec. 1, 7:30 p.m. 2010

Say what you will about Greensboro's Orson Scott Card—and believe me, I will, especially given his postings that the government should be overthrown if it legalizes gay marriage—but among science fiction and fantasy authors, he's truly enthralled generations with his classic Ender's Game (currently being serialized as a line of graphic novels from Marvel Comics). Card begins a new series with Pathfinder, which chronicles the tale of a teenager named Rigg, who discovers he has the power to not only view the past but to change it. Aimed at a young adult audience, and at almost 700 pages (!), Pathfinder kicks off an ambitious story line involving issues of fate and class, and, of course, high adventure. Card will read from and sign copies of Pathfinder at 7:30 p.m. —Zack Smith
