OAKWOOD LIVES 2015:

HISTORICAL VOICES OF RALEIGH

FRIDAY, MAY 29–SUNDAY, MAY 31, RALEIGH

OAKWOOD CEMETERY—A close encounter with the walking dead? Well, yes—but not to worry. For years now, Burning Coal Theatre Company's researchers and actors have been resurrecting the famous and the obscure during theatrical walking tours through the 148-year-old Oakwood Cemetery; so far, no one's lost their brains. This outing includes conversations with community leader Needham B. Broughton, "bone carpenter" Michael Hoke, newswoman Cornelia Battle Lewis, and Jesse Broyles, a Marine who survived the Battle of Iwo Jima before finding local fame as "The Peanut Man." Jackie Knollhuff directs an ensemble including George Jack and Douglas Knapp. 6:30 p.m. Fri.–Sat.; 2 p.m. Sun., $10–$20, 701 Oakwood Ave., 919-834-4001, www.burningcoal.org.Byron Woods

Price: $10-$20
