NORTH CAROLINA DANCE ALLIANCE COMMUNITY EVENT

SATURDAY, NOV. 22, DURHAM

DURHAM SCHOOL OF THE ARTS—The N.C. Dance Alliance is mixing things up this year, replacing its annual conference-style gathering with a less formal day of workshops, showings and community meetings. Three technique classes will be taught by Trish Casey ("Moving From Within"), Jacqueline White ("Ballet for Everyone") and recent Indies Arts Awards winner Leah Wilks ("Modern Dance Class, inspired by Gaga"). Contact improv classes and jams run throughout the day, all culminating in a showing of works at 7:30 p.m. The community meeting lets you catch up on what's going on in dance around the state, with a free lunch provided. Classes are drop-in friendly, but preregistration is recommended. 10 a.m.–9 p.m., $5–$40, 400 N. Duke St., 919-560-3926, www.ncdancealliance.org. —Chris Vitiello
