Noisem, Unsacred, BrainXToilet

When: Tue., Aug. 4, 8:30 p.m. 2015

In an age of instant information access, when most any sound you've heard of can also be heard in a flash, one bonus for young and enthusiastic artists can be a lack of contextual baggage. You find a sound you like, one that speaks to you and that you want to work with, and you don't have to dig deep into a scene to do so. In that regard, Baltimore's Noisem have it both ways. A young crew of two sets of brothers and a guitarist named Yago, they dig into thrash's primal past with a youthful glee, spitting out two-to-three minute blasts with sharp solos and strong hooks on a pair of short, impactful albums. They find new interest in the decades-old intersection of metal and punk, and that's where they plant their party. But on this year's Blossoming Decay, it's clear that they're more than kid tourists; they want to see this stuff advance. With arty interludes and songs that squeeze more substance into smaller spaces, their ecstatic vision of the past acknowledges that it must do something fresh for the present, too. Richmond's tumultuous and twisting Unsacred opens. 8:30 p.m., $10$12, 658 Maywood Ave., Raleigh, 919-829-5974, —Grayson Haver Currin
