NOIR AT THE BAR II

THURSDAY, JUNE 18, DURHAM

106 MAIN—At the second annual Noir at the Bar event, eight North Carolina authors of "Dark Fiction" read from their thrilling tales of twisted souls, terrible tragedies and shadowy streets where, baby, the rain must fall. The readers include Nathan Ballingrud, Eric B. Martin, Jearemy Hawkins, David Terrenoire, Bryan Gilmer, John Saunders, T.R. Zeleznock and organizer Eryk Pruitt, whose new novel, Hashtag, is another slice of sleazy Southern pulp in the vein of his prior Dirtbags. Many of these folks are working in the bloody tradition of such greats as Jim Thompson or James M. Cain, writing the kinds of tales that hit like a punch to the face and leave you feeling dirty—in a good way. Make sure you order the good stuff at 106 Main. You might need it ... to survive. 6:30 p.m., free, 106 Main St., Durham, 919-593-0560, www.erykpruitt.com. —Zack Smith
