Night of the Comet

When: Wed., April 11, 8 p.m. 2012

Perhaps too many films have been tarred with the brush known as "It was the '80s," but Night of the Comet is one of the most '80s-genre films ever made. The sci-fi horror-comedy's satirical concept deals with a comet that reduces a great deal of the world's populace to red dust, except for a handful of survivors and a number of zombies. Strange and hilarious, it answers such questions as, "What would you do with a whole mall to yourself?" And "Why is it a good idea to make sure teens know how to handle semiautomatic weapons?" Though the film vanished quickly at the box office when it first came out, it's since gained a loyal cult following from video and many a cable showing. Check out Cinema Overdrive's presentation of the film with plenty of classic trailers, along with a minimalist video game-inspired print (adjacent) for sale in the lobby. —Zack Smith
