New Year's Day Hike
They say what you do on New Year's Day is what you'll be doing for the rest of the year, so why not be proactive? If you really shake your fist at SUVs and grumble about sprawl, get ready to walk the walk: Join the Eno River Association's New Year's Day Hike. They're celebrating another year spent buying up lands around the Eno River to preserve it from development. See the work they've done on a two- or four-mile hike on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Refreshments will be served at the end of the hike to protect those precious holiday pounds that you worked so hard to gain. The hikes are free and no registration is required. And if you miss it this time, procrastinators, you've got a chance to make it up every Sunday in January and February at the same place and the same time.
Hikers should meet at the Eno River State Park's headquarters, at 6101 Cole Mill Road, in Durham. More specifically, from Interstate 85, drive 5.7 miles on Cole Mill Road until it ends at the parking lot next to the picnic tables. Resolve to get out more this year.
