Neil Hamburger, JP Inc, A/V Geeks

When: Wed., Feb. 23 2011

The matted-down comb-over, the oversize glasses, the rumpled tuxedo, the phlegmy coughs, the absurdly nasal voice, the way he clings to his drinking glass, the slower-than-slow joke delivery, the tasteless dirty-joke-book punch lines: Everything about "America's Funnyman" Neil Hamburger, as portrayed by Gregg Turkington, is meant to be off-putting or antagonistic. But with Hamburger, the jokes are almost beside the point; it's Turkington's relentlessly awkward performance as Hamburger that's the true draw. While trying to be the most unintentionally unfunny comedian imaginable, Hamburger inspires sincere laughter. —David Raposa
